Video Game Consumers Turning Into Spoiled Children
Photo courtesy ofgamerfuzion.com It seems that in the past 8 years or so gamers have become more needy and impossible to satisfy. What I mean by this is every new game that has come out recently has gotten worse reviews then I would ever think. Just a few examples of this are that most people I have talked to on this subject and from reading a few gaming forums I have noticed that for games like HALO or Call of Duty have been recently being torn apart by criticisms. After HALO 3 it seems like most people think that every HALO game should be exactly like HALO 3 because is was "The only good one". What I say to these people is, if the developers of HALO wanted to make the newest HALO the same as HALO 3 then what would be the point of making a new game? It would seem less time consuming and would be less expensive for map packs and other DLC to be released for it. Yes, Bungie is no longer the creators of HALO games but that doesn't mean that the story has been any less compelling or playing some good ole capture the flag has become any less fun. In shorter terms, if the game isn't completely different from the last then whats the point of making it? Now, the biggest example of all of this is the Call of Duty games. In this case I believe that some people do not understand that there are two different companies working on Call of Duty, Activision and Treyarch. Two different companies means two different games weather the games bear the same title or not. I have made a few observations on this. One is Treyarch is known for their introduction of Nazi Zombies to Call of Duty. A simple concept yet addicting and challenging as well. You and up to 4 of your friends work together to hold off waves and waves of zombies without end and on some maps completing other side objectives. Zombies has been in every Treyarch Call of Duty game since World at War and continues to be a fan favorite. But, with all the new updates to Zombies in the past few Treyarch Call of Duty games some people think they are "dumb" and "will never compare to the original". Yes, I do agree that the originals are amazing but to me a new game calls for a new experience. If I really wanted to play the older Zombies Id just go grab my copy of World at War and put it into my 360 and play it. People must realize the Zombies they know and love is not gone. It can be played whenever they want! My second observation of, mainly Call of Duty, gamers being impossible to please is what all Call of Duty games are famous for.... online multiplayer. Honestly, all of the online multiplayer in Call of Duty is the same. Yes there are new things like added killstreaks etc. but its mainly the weapons. I currently play Call of Duty Ghosts and I think it is the best Call of Duty yet! But, I always hear people saying "This is the worst Call of Duty" "MW2 is the only good game". What I say to them is; why don't you just go play that one then? No one is stopping you. (or) If you hate it so much why did you spend 60 dollars and waste all that time getting to such a high prestige level? Its a new game and its a work of art from the people who know what they are doing. People are not perfect, and people create video games, therefore a perfect video game is not achievable. So, having said all of this I hope people can come to realize that we should all just kick back and enjoy the damn game because thats what it was created for you the consumer to do!
As most PS4 gamers know, the PS4 recently had an update that added an application called, Share Factory. Share factory allows players to record their own game play and import it into the application to be edited. It is user friendly and very fun to use! I have had experience using video editing software and this by far is the most straight forward (for a gaming console at least). From my experience using it I found it very simple. There are a lot of tools and effects to use, which is very cool, but it also allows you to import video taken from a Playstation camera. This could be useful to those who like to do walkthrough videos and possibly some reaction videos for some of Playstation's scarier games like Outlast. All in all it is an amazing application with a lot of potential! However, I think it would be even better if Sony added in new effects and tools in future updates. I would encourage anyone who owns a PS4 to give it a try. You never know..... You could have a real talent for video editing!!!
RPGs are probably my favorite type of video games above everything else! Being able to do what you want when you want is great! Especially when there is a great story to go with it. The Fable series has always been a favorite since the first Fable for original Xbox. Being given the opportunity to make your own choices that affect you and the world around you is great and so is being able to explore a beautiful place like Albion! I have just recently bought Fable Anniversary and so far it has been an amazing experience and I expect it to have the same effect on me each time I play. The games graphics are way more vibrant and detailed than the original but still maintains the same gameplay that the original provided. Also the inclusion of all the quests from Fable: The Lost Chapters, which was a PC title, is pretty nice because having not played TLC the game felt a bit more refreshing. Since this is not really a new game but more of a re-release, there isn't too much to say about it besides that if you are even mildly interested in RPGs I would give it a try! Fable's atmosphere is very colorful and beautiful and is very fun and rewarding to explore. To get the most fun out of this game you need to explore and do side quests or else the game will end very quick and the experience will not be as immersive as it is intended to be. The games retail price is at an unbeatable $39.99 and is also available for digital download on the xbox live marketplace.
Hi everyone! My name is Nolan and I love video games! Before I get started with this "blogging" thing I want to take a second to tell you all a little about myself before we get to the good stuff! I am from upstate New York and am currently a Sophomore at St. Joseph's College of Maine. Also known as Hoth during the winter for all of you Star Wars fans out there! My major in college is communications with a focus in new media. Someday I hope to be involved with a gaming company with press and and other areas of communication in the company; I am still in my fourth semester of college so I'm still figuring what I really want to do. Also, working with the NHL (National Hockey League) would be another dream come true! Why the NHL? Well, obviously by the name of the blog I would love to be involved with video games, but I have been playing hockey my whole life and I really love everything about the sport! But we will leave it at that because this is a GAMING blog! I also enjoy offroading with my dirt bike and four wheeler! Its a great way to get away from everything sometimes. I love anything with a motor that will take me down the trails and on an adventure! Some could say, for a gamer I'm pretty outdoorsy! But enough of my life, lets get down to video games! My first gaming console was a Playstation 1. It didn't get that much use because I was still kind of young to understand how to play. It was when I got my Nintendo 64 that I started putting some serious crunch time into Super Mario 64 and shooting my friends up in 007 as well as many other games! Then came my Nintendo Gamecube. Its actually a funny story of how I acquired mine! I was in the middle of my youth hockey season in about 2nd or 3rd grade. I really wanted a Gamecube but both my birthday and Christmas had already passed. But, one Saturday morning on the way to my hockey game I explained how much I wanted a Gamecube to my mother. She then said to me, "If you score a hat trick this game, I will buy you a Gamecube." (a hat trick is 3 goals in one game). I took her up on that and shook her hand on it. Did I actually think I would get a hat trick at this game? Of course not! Scoring one goal in hockey is pretty hard. But it happened and I got my Gamecube! Maybe in a later post I will explain the story more, or possibly on my upcoming YouTube channel. Next was my first gaming love. My original Xbox! It was here I fell in love with Halo, Fable, and a few others. Halo 2's online multiplayer really got me into gaming as a community. Next, I got my Xbox 360. What gamer doesn't at least have a 360? Yes that is my opinion as far as PS3 and Xbox 360 go. Unfortunately, my 360 kept breaking so I invested in the 320 gb HALO 4 Edition Console. The thing is beautiful! And now, I have my PS4! Yes I know what you are thinking, what a traitor! Yes, I did say xbox 360 was better than ps3 in my opinion but in this current generation I rather have a PS4 than Xbox ONE; I will get into that at a later post. Some of my favorite genres are: Adventure and RPG games (Fable, Elder Scrolls, and Assassins Creed if its possible to classify it as an RPG when its technically action/adventure), shooters, horror games like Outlast and Amnesia, racing, and indie games. Well, theres my little introduction for you guys! I hope you all enjoy what will come in the future on this blog! Also, watch for my upcoming YouTube channel! I will post a link to it when I work everything out (I do have lots of studying and hockey practice!). And I do appreciate feedback as I want to be successful with blogging! So please leave comments below and feel free to contact me with anything else! Happy Gaming! - Nolan
